Chateau Pichon Lalande

France > Bordeaux > Médoc > Pauillac

This grand cru thrives on the 'miserly' soils of Pauillac where rainfall is slightly lower and the Atlantic winds clear the air of moisture. As a result the grapes have an intensity of flavour.

In the 2000 vintage the unusual mix of grapes (36 per cent merlot, 50 per cent cabernet sauvignon, six per cent cabernet franc and ten per cent petit verdot) gives the wine great longevity. Amazingly, the 1875 and 1893 vintages were deemed very drinkable at private tastings. Hot weather in the run up to harvesting in 2000 also helped create a beautiful wine. This one is for laying down until 2020.
